Israel Broadcasting Authority may find way out of deficit

The financially-strapped Israel Broadcasting Authority may find a partial way out of its deficit with the help of HOT cable television, with which the IBA has signed a contract to produce local news.

The contract requires an amendment to the Broadcasting Authority Law as well as the approval of the Knesset Economics Committee.

If the law is changed and there is a nod from the committee, the IBA will produce news from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Beersheba, Sderot and Kiryat Shmona in addition to news broadcasts in Arabic.
